Message from the Vice Dean and SVP

This is an especially exciting time for the Real Estate Development and Facilities (RED+F) Department, as we pursue a new vision for NYU Langone Medical Center as a world-class patient-centered, integrated academic medical center providing outstanding patient care, medical research and education in a dynamic and collaborative environment. We at RED+F play a vital role in translating the Medical Center's vision into the physical reality.

Core to that vision, and to the physical environment it will require, is the Campus Transformation initiative, which began in 2007 and involves the construction of major new facilities on our main campus between 34th and 30th Streets in Manhattan, as well as a critical expansion of our outreach beyond the main campus.

On campus, the transformation includes the new 800,000 square foot Helen L. and Martin S. Kimmel Pavilion high acuity clinical facility; the state-of-the-art Energy Building featuring a highly energy-efficient cogeneration system; and a new Science Building, which will help to advance growth in groundbreaking medical research and become a new gateway for the School of Medicine campus. Another key element is the multi-phase transformation of Tisch Hospital encompassing a new 18-story elevator tower, expanded main lobby, and enlarged and renovated 22,000 square foot Emergency Department.

Outside of the main campus, the transformation continues with a series of projects extending the Medical Center's ambulatory care services to new and expanded facilities in the surrounding neighborhood and beyond. These include a new Ambulatory Care Center with 300,000 square feet of acquired space and the opportunity for more room to grow; and the 100,000 square foot Center for Musculoskeletal Care. Both are on East 38th Street, a short distance from the main campus.

In all, this ambitious initiative calls for close to three million square feet of growth by 2017. With the Campus Transformation at the forefront of our mission, RED+F will continue to play a key role in the Medical Center's present and future--but our overall role is broader still. The department has more than a 100 new construction and renovation projects in planning, design or construction at any given time.  RED+F also ensures that the day-to-day operation and maintenance of all facilities, infrastructure and related support services reflect NYU Langone's vision and status as a world class institution. Our overarching goal is to provide an integrated and seamless environment for patients, visitors, staff, students and faculty of the highest quality across all areas of the Medical Center, whether on campus or off.
