Planning

The Planning and Project Development Group plans, designs and implements the construction of all NYU Langone Medical Center clinical, research, academic, and administrative facilities while ensuring adherence to financial, technical and compliance guidelines.

Planning and Project Development provides services that fall into two major categories: program and space planning, and capital projects.

Planning

Planning Services develops projects that are consistent with the Medical Center’s goals, make the best use of its space resources, and create patient care, working and housing environments that are safe, healthy, attractive and conducive to their intended purposes. Planning Services include conducting studies or feasibility reviews to enable informed decisions about space needs and to budget costs for projects ranging from major buildings to small-scale relocations and/or recruitment initiatives.

Planning staff members work with clients to review the request and existing conditions, clarify issues to be addressed, and review potential approaches to solution. The Planning staff will undertake an appropriate study such as a strategic plan, feasibility study, site selection, master plan, or concept design, typically including these steps:

• Benchmark and review relevant trends
• Analyze existing conditions
• Develop Space Needs Assessment and program
• Identify problems and opportunities
• Develop and evaluate alternative solutions
• Select and refine a preferred solution
• Develop a preliminary project cost estimate and an implementation plan
